introduction and aims
Introduction and Aims
The demographic for my music magazine is over a large audience; there are also a wide variety of people that may be interested in the magazine. The style of my magazine will be more specific and will be aimed at people in the 16-30 age group. Because of the amount of people that may buy my magazine it will be aimed at both male and female, these people will mainly be in the socio economic group of C2, D, E. Because of the wide target audience the magazine will not look too unprofessional or look to be aimed at young people. I would like the magazine to have the look of a more expensive magazine, well laid out, good finish but I want to aim the magazine at a lower price range.
To find inspiration fro my magazine I have researched a number of magazines like Vibe and NME, both magazines often use one large picture of a well know artist and are mostly in front of the title of the magazine. This is the style that I will use for my magazine but will use different typefaces to make my magazine different.
I have decide to use the genres Pop and R&B because I feel that these genres combined have more people following them than any other genre and this will mean the target audience will be much larger. This links with the socio economic group as a large amount of the C2, D, E group will be listening to tis music. Because of the large variety of people that these genres have the magazine will have to be something for every one. I will have to make the magazine organised and interesting but also attractive to people when they are looking at magazines in shops.
The kinds of artists that I would consider using in my magazine are the script, Ne-Yo, flo-rida and Cheryl Cole. I would consider using these artists because they are well known with in the target audience and f they are on the front cover people will have something to relate to with the magazine.
The whole layout of my magazine will be influenced by the graphic designer Wim Crowel, in his work he uses text and then makes it illegible by taking sections of the text away but laving enough to keep the text recognisable. When using the illegible text I will be able to use a teaser campaign where the first magazine will have standard text and then every magazine after will lose part of the text until the text doesn’t resemble the word but will be recognisable to my magazine.
magazine 5
In this magazine cover there is a selection of images that look to have been scattered around the page, although the images are different sizes they have been placed in a column to keep the organisation which makes the cove readable. There is only one main section of colour and that has been placed in the center of the page where it is advertising an article that magazine has. I like the way that the title of the magazine has been placed behind the main image which leaves only the start and end of the title but as this is a well known magazine in its genre the people looking to buy this genre of magazine will recognize it from these letters. The top and bottom of the page has had a band of colour which contains articles and information the magazine has, I feel this uses the space on the page well but I feel this magazine cover is to crowded and looks a bit messy.
contents page 2
The title of the contents page has been highlighted in red to make it obvious what page it is, the red that it is highlighted in is the only section of that colour on the page so it makes it even more obvious. There is a main image on this contents page which has had bright yellow writing placed on top, this will be the main article in this magazine and would of also been featured on the magazine cover. All of the other articles and page numbers have been placed with the column to the right hand side of the page and have been placed parallel with the image. I like the way that each main heading on the contents page has been highlighted in yellow and been placed over a little black box, I feel that this draws attention to them as being important pieces of information.
contents page 1
In this contents page all of the images have been arranged at the bottom of the page and placed on top of each other. The text has been ordered so that there are three columns of text, the first two are red and black text placed over a white background and the other column is yellow and white text placed over a black background. The first two columns are all headings and a small description about what the magazine contains and the other column is all page numbers and what is on each page. I like the way that there are small points in this contents page that have been used to stand out and catch attention, an example of this is the red circle at the top of the page number column. The red circle stands out because it is bright and is sitting over a dark background. All of the images have had a border placed around them and these are bright and bold used to split the images from the background.

magazine 4
In this magazine cover there is a alrge amount of bright colour, the text has been split into two bright coloursand the typeface is large and bold. This amount of colour gives the magazine a fun look but is not the normal look for it's genre as this magazine is aimed at the rock genre's audience. I like the way that the main pictures have been linked together into one image and that image has a white surround which blends in with the yellow background. At a first appearance this magazine gives the look of a POP magazine because of the bright colours and bold text. I like the way that the background and image have been removed from the botom section of the page wich leaves a wite box, to most people this black box would normaly just mean the bar code and price but this magazine has included an extra that the magazine comes with.

magazine 3
In this edition of "Vibe" magazine there is a reduced amount of colour compared to some of the other editions, I feel that this gives this edition a more serious look. the background is one colour that has had a lght source one side to give more shadow the other. The title of the magazine has been partly covered but as "Vibe" is such a popular magazine for R&B people recognise it from the first and last letter. I like the way that in this edition the use of red and white text has been evenly split to it makes the cover look more organised. I like the way that the title is behind the subject on the cover but the line of text at the bottom of the page is in front of the subject, I feel that this makes the cover look more 3D. The subject on the front of the cover will also make the magazine stand out because most R&B magazines have men on the cover so it makes this cover different.
magazine 2
This is an edition of billboard magazine, this magazine mainly features R&B artists meaning it targets a particular audience. This edition has a fairly low key look compared to other R&B magazines as this magazine is using an image as the background, the subject is wearing dull colored clothes and the text isn't as bright as some magazines use. I feel that this magazine will be less effective at catching peoples attention but give the look of a more organized and serious magazine. I like way that some of the magazine title has been blocked out but enough is still visible to keep the title rcognisable. I like the wa that the title has a subheading above it which then draws more attention to the subheading. All of the text has been alligned in a column to the left of the page but has not been placed over the image, this keeps the organised look that this magazine has. In this magazine the three main pieces of information have been highlighted in a way that will draw attenetion to them. One key point is is the enlarged "Trey Songz" which imediatly stands out, the second is the small caption of text that has been circled and the third is the subheading above the title.
magazine 1
In this edition of "Wonderland" the cover picture and the magazine tiltle have been made seperate, this gives the magazine a different look from other magazines with the same genre because the bold text and the black box behind the text are contrasting with the lighter colour of the rest of the cover. All of the text o the cover has been place directly infront of the subject on the cover, this makes the text harder to read but the main information that needs to been seen easily has been either highlighted in white or made larer. I like the way that the text has been placed in a center column to make it look as if the text is on the subject clothes. This magazine cover has been made to look like a CD case, because of this there is no subheadings on the cover with info about what the magazine contains so the contents page will need to be quick to read but also informative. I like the way that the image has a light sorce to thge right so there is more shadow and variations in tone to the left of the image.
